Business Boom: Dancing with the Stars

How often do fund managers or economists appear in viral videos? Once in a blue moon, if ever – unless they get involved in show business affairs.

Marvin Fausto, president of COL Investment Management, and his wife, Rose, a behavioral economist and no-nonsense blogger, aka “FQ Mom,” write about personal and family finance Tips article. In attendance were VJ actors Robi Domingo and Mikey Pineda. (Rose was the main wedding sponsor).

The Faustos were featured prominently in a video clip of them dancing with popular actress Kathryn Bernardo at Domingo-Pineda's wedding reception.

The video, which went viral, shows young actor Donny Pangilinan offering a glass of water and talking to Bernardo (who was just recovering from a painful #Kathniel breakup), apparently asking her to dance. This piqued the interest of netizens, leading to accusations/speculations that Pangilinan was “interested” in the newly single young actress.

Wouldn’t it be great if these speculators focused their efforts on financial markets?

But all in all, the Faustos (especially Mrs.) looked very beautiful and elegant on the dance floor. Doris Dumlao-Abadilla

The long-awaited IPO

The market has been long-awaited for the initial public offering (IPO) of GCash, a popular domestic e-wallet brand. That could happen soon for the e-wallet provider whose parent company is already a dual-unicorn.

Oscar Reyes Jr., president and CEO of electronic wallet operator G-Xchange Inc., recently said they hope to go public in the second half of this year.

“We are preparing internally to be ready for this year,” he said. Recall that GCash said last year that it was ripe for an IPO.

But GCash is on the sidelines, carefully monitoring the stock market before launching its IPO.

“Looking at the current situation, the market is not optimistic at the moment. We are waiting for recovery,” Reyes said.

The question now is: Will GCash finally move forward with its IPO plans this year? let's see!—Tyrone Jasper C. Piard

MVP Group expands into live events

Tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan's PLDT Group is building a new major revenue stream through live concerts and events, banking on a recent trend among Filipinos to splurge and even travel to performances at home and abroad.

The organization's MediaQuest, led by Jane Basas, recently launched a new events division called MQLIVE.

Their opening guest is Korean superstar Park Hyung-sik, who will return to the country on February 17 this year to attend a fan meeting at the Smart Araneta Arena.

Tickets are on sale now, and our sources say the show, titled Park Hyung Sik’s Asia Tour 2024 FM “SIKcret Time Manila,” is shaping up to be a blockbuster event.

PLDT and Smart are pioneers in bringing superstar Korean artists to Korea, including global superstars BTS.

We are told that there will be more to come as MQLIVE attracts more artists in the future. Given the high hopes for the success of the new business unit, insiders are now wondering whether Basas himself may be involved as PLDT searches for an eventual successor as CEO of the telecom giant. Do you have P500M?Park Villas may be right for you

Don’t be surprised if you haven’t seen any big announcements about the 50-storey Park Villas, one of Ayala Land Premier’s latest projects set to rise near the Manila Peninsula in Makati City.

That's because it's not for everyone.

After all, this ultra-luxury residential project has only 45 units (one on each floor), with each well-appointed unit measuring approximately 600 square meters and offering enviable views of the Ayala Triangle Gardens.

price tag? The minimum amount per unit for an owner is US$9 million or P504 million.

However, Ayala Land has begun selling privately and, surprisingly or not surprisingly, bookings are coming in quickly.

These interested buyers are primarily from the Forbes Park and Dasmarinas Village crowd who are now empty nesters looking to “downsize” to smaller homes without compromising the lifestyle they are accustomed to.
